Issues

By following the links below, you can read about my position on a number of the issues that I think we Montanans care about. Of course I probably haven’t made my stand clear on all of the issues that may be important to you, but as the campaign goes forward, and as I hear more about what’s on voters’ minds, I’ll add more statements to this page. But you don’t have to wait for that to happen if you don’t want to. If you have a question about any issue, please post it on the Ask Dick page, and I will post an answer just as soon as I can.

In taking a stand on any issue, there are a couple of things that I try to keep in mind.

One is that issues are often complicated and there are not always simple, one-size-fits-all solutions to problems. It’s tempting to oversimplify things, but I’ll try to avoid that.

I also think it’s important for public officials to concentrate on protecting and advancing the public interest. Sometimes that’s easier said than done because we confuse what’s good for a special interest with what’s good for the public at large. In fact, special interests often like us to be confused in that way, but it’s a confusion I’ll do my best to avoid.
